The Osoto Gari takedown: The Osoto Gari takedown or Outside Major Leg Sweep is your first fundamental foot sweep, though your focal point is off balancing your opponent and hip hip forward driving contact as you enter the takedown. Keep your partner’s arm once he falls to help break his fall and later, set up an armbar!
1- Professor Galvao is entering the takedown with his hip too far from his partner’s hip. As he goes for the takedown, his partner can keep his balance and sweep Galvao’s foot back to counter the takedown!
2- Professor Galvao takes a wide step with his left foot and keeps his shoulder tight to his partner as he enters. Now, as he sweeps his right leg forward, he makes contact with his partner’s hip. His right shoulder helps work as a pressure forward so his partner’s balance is now leaning backward and his foot is ready to be swept.
