Sparring is essential in BJJ. It’s a unique training tool that will help you familiarize yourself with the specific positions and flow of real-world hand-to-hand combat. Of course, to the unprepared and the uneducated, sparring can come off as an overwhelming concept to some degree. But if you’re here watching this, you probably had the experience of sparring in BJJ. Rafael Vasconcelos received his black belt from Leandro Lo in October 2017, before moving to California to train at the Atos Jiu-Jitsu Headquarters under Andre Galvao. He is a 2x IBJJF American Nationals Champion (brown and black); an IBJJF South American Championships medalist; and a IBJJF World Championship silver medalist (purple).
