TECHNIQUES:
1- GUILLOTINE DEFENSE – SITTING BACK: When your opponent has a guillotine lock on your neck, his aim is to bring his hips close to you and lift up at your neck for a choke. To keep him from doing so, this defense is simple. All you do is sit back and allow your opponent’s momentum to roll over you, unwinding the choke.
2- GUILLOTINE DEFENSE – SLIDING DOWN: This front headlock Guillotine defense utilizes a sacrificial throw or Sutemi-Waza to propel your opponent into a forward roll to the mats. This is not only a great technical counter but it is also important for training yourself to turn out of the guillotine to the top position before the opponent has the opportunity to do so.
3- GUILLOTINE DEFENSE – LEG TRIP: For this guillotine defense, you will be using a hand over the shoulder to lock yourself to your opponent and weaken the choke while using the outside trip or Tani-OToshi to bring him down. Once on the mat, use your defensive pulling hand along with your forearm blade to pry your head free from the lock.
