Atos HQ black belt Josh Hinger teaches variations to open the Closed Guard Effortlessly, during the 615pm class on 01/03/2017.
The closed guard is one of the basic guards taught in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. It’s largely used by BJJ beginners as by high-level competitors. Hinger knows that It’s a tiny position that every beginner white belt should know. Otherwise, the full or closed guard is a strong position where the practitioner’s legs are closed around the opponent’s waist (hips). While you are in this situation, the opponent can have different variations of attacks and submission. Your goal is to have a great posture while working to open the guard. There's not much the person on top can do other than open the closed guard first before working on attacking the opponent.
Josh Hinger received his black belt from Andre Galvao in December 2013. He is a 3x IBJJF Black Belt World No-Gi Champion; ADCC Bronze Medalist; a 2x IBJJF Black Belt American Nationals Champion (double-gold) and an ADCC West Coast Trials Champion. He is also one of Atos HQ’s top kid’s instructors.
