I've been doing Jiu Jitsu for almost 4 years now, 55 years old/5'7"/188 lbs and a purple belt for about 9 months now. I roll quite often with one of my coaches who is a 4 stripe brown belt in his early 30s and ~265 lbs. Once he gets on top (typically happens fast) then I'm stuck for the most part. Would love to be able to at least escape or sweep him but I'm always in just survival mode underneath him. Typically I can survive without getting submitted. When I get done with one roll from him it feels like I went through a brutal upper body workout.
Older Guy Getting Smashed By Younger Higher Belts
Hello Roger,
Thanks for sharing that :)
Your coach is HUGE tho hehe!
I can help you for sure. but you have to answer some questions:
1. What kind guard do you try to play against him?
2. Does your coach pass on his knees (pressure pass) or standing (toreando or side to side pass)?
3. What's your favorite guard?
Let me know and I can help you! It would b egreat if I could watch a video and help you with that :)
Oss,
Andre
Thx Andre! No problem :-). Yes, he is definitely huge. Fast and flexible for a big guy as well.
My favorite guard is half guard whether I'm on bottom or top. I typically start off seated with him and his style of passing is side to side and will end up in my half guard but creating space so that I can work becomes very difficult. He will just weigh in on any frames. He will pass my half guard into side control. Bridging to get my inside hand to the opposite hip takes several hard bumps but then I can't get past his belly to ghost or shrimp out. He will typically bring both of his arms to the outside position in side as well. Even posting on his shoulder/armpit to shrimp out turns into him smashing be back down.
I've tried the standing game with him and snapping him down is practically impossible for me. He's built like a tank. No neck ha. He ends up taking me down. Me hitting the mat with 265 landing on me. Ug.
I'll see if I can pull a video from our security cams.
