Putting It All Together: This technique combines the choke defense with the Koshi-Guruma takedown with the knee-on-belly to an armbar finish. As long as you maintain strong sleeve control during the throw, you should be able to practice or attack with the knee-on-belly armbar as a quick 1-2 combination finish.
- Begin facing your partner. He has his hands on your neck in a choke;
- Bend your knees to lower your base and change your level;
- Reach up with your left hand and hold your partner’s right elbow, pulling down to relieve pressure on your neck;
- Bring your right arm up between your partner’s arms to break his left-hand grip;
- Step toward him and reach your right hand up and over his shoulder;
- Reach all the way around his neck to his right shoulder;
- Step your left foot back. Step your right foot in front of his right foot, and squat down to enter your hips below his;
- Bend forward to load him up on your hip line;
- Rotate your torso away from your partner to help him flip over you;
- Continue holding your partner’s arm as he flips over you. He will prepare to break his fall;
- As your partner hits the mat, pull up on his arm, and keep your foot right next to his hip;
- Push down on his hip with your right hand and move your foot so it is right next to his armpit;
- Transfer your weight to your right hand and your right foot;
- Step over his head with your left leg;
- Sit back, keeping his arm pinned to your chest, and pinch your knees together;
- Make sure your partner is giving you a thumbs-up with his hand as you lean back into the arm-bar;
- Lay back, keeping your knees together;
- Pin his wrist to your chest and gently lift your hips to finish the armbar.
