Hip Throw and Sweeping The Leg Harai-Goshi: The Harai-Goshi hip throw is special in that this version allows you to build on your successes from the O-Goshi while eliminating their option to circle to your front in defense. In addition to this, your leg sweep creates more lifting momentum to rapidly send your opponent skyward.
- Begin by standing facing your partner with your feet shoulder-width apart;
- Reach for your partner’s right arm with your left hand and make a grip behind his triceps;
- Pull his arm so it is under your left arm, and then close your elbow to keep it there;
- Take a step to your right and reach under his left arm with your right arm, making a grip on his belt;
- Step in front of his right foot with your right foot and follow with your left foot in front of his left foot;
- Lower your level so your hips are lower than his, and then sweep your right leg backward as you pull him over you;
-Rotate your torso as you sweep his leg and he will begin flipping over your hips;
- Keep your grips as he breaks his fall;
- Pin your knee to his hip and pull up on his arm to finish.
