Front Choke Defense Hip-Throw: With your knowledge of the Koshi-Guruma headlock takedown its time to apply this to a real-world self-defense situation. In this case, you focus on regaining the inside control, a fundamental jiu-jitsu concept to create separation from the choke, and set-up the follow-up takedown.
- Begin standing in front of your partner with your feet shoulder-width apart.
- Your partner reaches forward and places his hands on your neck in a choke.
- Bend your knees to lower your base and change your level.
- Hold your partner’s right elbow with your left hand and bring your right arm up between your partner’s arms to break his left-hand grip.
- Step toward him and reach your right hand up and over his shoulder.
- Reach all the way around his neck to his right shoulder. Step your left foot back.
- Step your right foot in front of his right foot, and squat down to enter your hips below his.
- Let your hip come all the way through so his weight is on your left hip. Bend forward to load him up on your hip line.
- Keep your grips on the neck while he flips over you.
- Lift your hips to load him over you. Bend forward and begin rotating your torso away from him.
- Pull up on his arm as he prepares to break his fall.
- Once he hits the mat, keep pulling upon his arm and put weight forward on your right knee to pin him in the knee on belly.
