Professor Dominique Bell teaches the concepts of open guard and the omoplata submission from collar and sleeve guard, during Fundamentals Class at 6:15pm.
In Collar and Sleeve Guard is one of the most classic guards in all of jiu-jitsu, from BJJ black belt, Silver Medalist Pan. Using the same techniques and concepts that Dom Bell has implemented at the highest levels of competition, attacking submissions such as the omoplata, sweeping, and transitioning with the use of the collar and sleeve.
This Open Guard Style is easier than you ever thought!
The omoplata is a shoulder joint lock technique which utilizes the attacker’s legs and hips to manipulate the opponent’s shoulder joint to an extent that the joint reaches its maximal degree of motion, this can lead to a submission or force a reversal (sweep).
The Omoplata is one of those cool looking submission. It is a shoulder lock that is done from the bottom, usually a great sub option from Collar Sleeve Guard. While Collar Sleeve setups are the most basic open guard attacks, there are also plenty of open guard setups from this guard such as triangles & arm bars.
Dominique Bell is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under André Galvão and a member of the Atos Jiu-Jitsu team. Formerly a member of the US Army, Dom Bell broke out as one of BJJ’s hottest prospects in 2015, a reputation made evident after his gold medal at the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) World Championship that year, as a purple belt. He would later solidify that status with several high-profile wins in the sport.
