TECHNIQUES:
1- AMERICANA LOCK FROM MOUNT: The Americana lock is a strong submission that can be executed from any controlling top position. Here, the lock is performed from the mount. Be sure to keep your elbow on the mat right next to his ear to keep him from pushing your triceps to escape.
2- ARMBAR FROM MOUNT: The armbar from the mount is one of the most basic and effective techniques in jiu-jitsu. An inexperienced opponent will often try to push you off the mount using just his arms. When he extends them, choose a side and set up the self-defense armbar. This is also an excellent drill to get in armbar repetitions.
3- STRAIGHT ARMBAR WHEN OPPONENT PUSHES TO THE SIDE: A strong opponent can threaten to off-balance you from the bottom of the mount position. If he overexaggerates his bridge and keeps his arms extended while he bridges onto his shoulder, you can catch him in a straight armbar. The beauty is he thinks he is escaping until his arm is trapped and he must tap.
After this course, you are now prepared to drive into more advanced takedowns, drills, guard positions, passes, transitional changes, and submission series. You now have a solid basic understanding of what jiu-jitsu is and can perform many of its fundamentals.
