TECHNIQUES:
1- UPA ESCAPE – SIDE MOUNT ATTACKING MOUNT: When your opponent has you trapped in side control, he will often switch his hips toward your legs transitioning to attack the mount. When he switches his hips, make an underhook on his flank and prepare to upa him off you as he steps over for mount. Follow your bridge’s momentum to the top of the closed guard.
2- ELBOW ESCAPE – SIDE MOUNT ATTACKING MOUNT: The elbow escape is an essential movement for escaping the guard, and it also can be applied to escaping the mount. When your opponent steps over for the mount, he leaves enough space for you to sneak your elbow to your knee. A quick switch of your hips allows you to recover guard easily.
3- CHOKE FROM BOTTOM OF SIDE CONTROL: The bottom of side control is not a great position for you to be, but this sneaky choke from the bottom can help you get yourself out of a bad situation quickly. Make a collar grip on your opponent’s collar and then swipe your leg around his head to cinch him in a choke from the bottom of side control.
**SIDE MOUNT IS ALSO KNOWN AS SIDE CONTROL OR “CEM KILOS” (WHICH MEANS 100 KG).
