Self-Defense DAY 5
22m
TECHNIQUES:
1- DOUBLE COLLAR GRAB DEFENSE – HANDS APART: The double collar control is often used by a strong opponent’s hoping to slow the fight and prevent your entry into the hip, shoulder, or leg throws. This defensive counter beautifully uses this control to trap both of the opponent’s arms, close the distance and set-up a clean Tai-Otoshi forward tripping throw. As with all finishes, be sure to secure the arm to later continue toward the knee-on-belly armbar.
2- SHOULDER GRAB DEFENSE -ARM BENT: The same side shoulder grab defense utilizes the circling action of the previous technique, but this time your focus is wrapping only one arm and trapping his elbow in front of your body. In doing so, you are able to pull his elbow upward while keeping his hand trapped behind you for a devastating Ude-Garami standing bent armlock.
3- SHOULDER GRAB DEFENSE – ARM STRAIGHT: This shoulder grab defense uses the circling action of the previous techniques, and you do the same set up to trap his arm as the technique before this. This time, the finish will be a straight armlock instead of a bent one. Sometimes, a very strong opponent will be able to straighten his arm to keep you from finishing the bent armlock so you can switch it up with a leg trip to take advantage of his straight arm!
